Black and white baby and family photography in Epsom, Surrey
30th March 2013
Last week I went to Epsom in Surrey for a photography session with a family who were given a gift voucher for their baby shower. What nice friends they have! They didn't want a newborn session so waited until the youngest child was 3 months old. They also have an older boy of 2. He was an angel throughout the session which meant I was able to get some lovely sibling portraits. Joshua was awake through most of the shoot, but slept right at the end.... so the perfect scenario of being able to get both types of pictures. Here are my favourite black and white images from the day. Hope you like them! Sara-Jane x

Professional baby photography session in Greenwich, South East London
23rd March 2013
A lot of my work as a professional baby and child photographer is very young babies, as this is the time when parents, especially first time parents, want to capture their special moments. So it's lovely for me when I get to photograph toddlers. It's a lot more of a challenge as they never sit still, but the key is to work with the child and what they like doing. It never pays to make them sit in one spot and pose as you will end up with one grumpy child!! This results in much more natural, lifestyle type images, such as the ones I took below of one-year old Zak at a photography session in Greenwich, South East London this week. Sara-Jane x

Photography with Tippee Toes in Dulwich, South London
21st March 2013
Last week I went to a Tippee Toes children's event in Dulwich, London to take some professional photographs for their website. Tippee Toes offer music workshops, baby massage, parties and soft play for energetic babies and toddlers in South East London! It was so much fun and I fell in love with the ball pit! Not only for the bright colours that they add to the pictures, but also because it stops the children from running around!!! It's very hard to capture movement when you are inside and have to use flash photography with a slow shutter speed. The bouncy castle was near on impossible!!! Here are my favourite images from the day. Sara-Jane x

Baby and child photography party in Sydenham, SE London
18th March 2013
One of the unique services I offer is a baby & child photography party, where a group of mums can get together and share the cost and experience of a professional photography shoot. Last week I held one such session in Sydenham, South East London. The babies were all 4 or 5 months old which is one of my favourite ages for photos, as I can capture that cute tummy time without risk of the little 'uns crawling away! I also was able to use my new alphabet blocks, which make such an awesome picture spelling out your baby's name :-) Sara-Jane x

Child photography in the snow - 2 year old Marius
12th March 2013
This weekend I took a break from London and went to Norway to visit some friends from when I lived there. While I was there I had a child photography session with my friend's son, Marius, a 2 year old toddler. It was still very snowy over there, but really sunny, so there was some amazing late afternoon light to be had - and no need to use my flash!! Here are some of my favourite pictures that were taken in their local playground. It means that in my first year as a baby and child photographer I will have photos on walls in the UK, France, Norway, America, Australia and New Zealand. How international!! Sara-Jane x

Monthly photography session at The Dish and Spoon, Dulwich, South London
08th March 2013
My monthly newborn, baby and child photography sessions at The Dish and Spoon in Nunhead, near Dulwich, in South London are proving as popular as ever. Mums get a 15 minute slot for me to take some photos of their babies and kids, and for £50 they also get 4 digital images. So it's an affordable way of them getting some pictures of their children, and to see my skills and a baby and child photographer. Hopefully then booking a longer family session at a later date! This month it was mostly boys, amongst which there were some real cuties as you can see below. Sara-Jane x

Baby photography session in Fulham, South West London - 11 week old Coco
07th March 2013
Earlier this week I went to Fulham in South West London for a professional baby photography session with the gorgeous 11 week old Coco. She is a very pretty little girl and an absolute delight to photograph. Modelling made her sleepy though and she had to have a power nap halfway through! The last set of pictures that we got were of her on her belly, with Coco lifting her head all the way up for the very first time. You go girl! The family are moving to Australia so they will now have some amazing portraits to put on their walls over there :-) Sara-Jane x

Happy newborn baby photographer in South Clapham, London
05th March 2013
In February I was a very excited photographer when I sold a gift voucher to a woman in Australia, who wanted to buy my Watch me Grow Package for her friends in London. This is a great way to document the first year of your baby's life through pictures. Normally the first photography session is best when your newborn is under 10 days old, the second around six months when your baby is able to sit and loves tummy time, and the third at a year when they are toddlers developing their own little personalities. The first session took place last week at the parents' home in South Clapham, London when Hugo was only 8 days new. The first 7 days of his life he slept constantly, and a quick feed would make him sleep. On the day I was there he loved the attention and only slept for a few mins of the 3-hour shoot. Fighting his tiredness with every breath!!! So while we didn't get many of those "traditional" newborn poses, we were able to get a nice mix of pictures for mummy and daddy. Sara-Jane x

ShutterBaby Baby and Child Photography - One year old today!!
01st March 2013
A year ago today I left my career as an accountant to pursue my dream of becoming a newborn, baby and child photographer. I didn't know what the future would hold or whether I would be able to make it in such a competitive business. I was passionate about photography and had been taking photos as an amateur for years but I knew nothing about editing, website design, SEO, marketing or generally running my own business. How was I going to get clients? Would I be able to pay my bills? Could I really leave the corporate world forever?

With a lot of research (google became my best friend!), help from some amazing people I met along the way and many many many hours of hard work I made it through the first year. I am so immensely proud of myself for how far I have come, and how much I have learnt. The day I googled "baby photography south london" and came up as the first name I jumped around for joy. I am happy to say that I have a steady stream of clients and am absolutely loving my change of career (despite the crazy hours!). It is so amazing to be my own boss, but more than anything to create something which makes people smile. Do I ever want to go back to accounting? No thanks.
